School project brings snow to Liverpool airport

The Airport has been given a festive feel as a result of a project carried out at nearby St Christophers Catholic primary school in Speke. All the children at the school made their very own snowflake to go on display at the airport, meaning there are now over 300 displayed in the terminal building. The lucky pupils who came up with the two best designs will be rewarded with a V.I.P behind the scenes tour of the airport base with their parents and teacher. Liverpool John Lennon airport will be welcoming other local schools and community groups over the weeks leading up to Christmas to sing carols and create a festive atmosphere for travellers to enjoy. The customer services coordinator at the hub, Christina Smith said, The airport already works closely with schools hosting many education based visits, but staff were really keen to work with local schools to see if the pupils wanted to help welcome passengers with a festive scene before they set off on their journeys. The work that has gone into the display is just amazing and each child has taken a lot of time to make this a great way to celebrate the Christmas period.

CarryMyLuggage.com has introduced a new European service for British holidaymakers and business travellers fed up with raising extra baggage charges of the so-called low cost airlines. The company, which has been providing luggage services since 2004, has launched a door-to-door Europe wide Economy Service where passengers bags are collected from their residence and delivered to their hotel, resort or villa ahead of the traveller. The company believes its new online European Economy Service will, for a lot of passengers, be cheaper even than the standard baggage charges on the biggest low cost airlines. Simon Huxford, MD of CarryMyLuggage.com, said: British tourists are being charged up to £190 for a round trip with some low cost airlines just for the privilege of taking a standard 20kg suitcase on holiday, our service starts from £65 one way for the same item. He continued to say : We think our EU Economy Service will also appeal to those who prefer not to travel with heavy bags, so its ideal for the elderly or infirm, single parents travelling with children and people who are unable to carry bags because of a disability. As well as providing a trackable, insured service for travellers heading to or from European countries, CarryMyLuggage.com can also transport ski and snowboard equipment as well as golf bags and accessories.

Airport security

The following is a guide to the security requirements for all passengers departing from UK airports and also provides some advice that will help passengers pass through the security search point as quickly as possible. Key points to remember: * The maximum size for items of hand luggage is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm per bag. However, airlines apply their own operational policies governing the number of items of hand baggage which may be taken in to the aircraft cabin. * Before departing we strongly suggest you check with your airline on the cabin baggage arrangements for your particular journey. * Where possible, put all liquid items in your hold baggage. This includes water and other drinks, creams, sprays, pastes and gels. * Liquids, gels and aerosols are only allowed in individual containers of 100ml. All containers must fit comfortably in one, transparent, re-sealable bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm (eg a freezer bag).

Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Airline bosses have reacted angrily to the pre-Budget statement which was delivered by Chancellor Alistair Darling . With Air Passenger Duty (APD) set to rise, there are fears that some airlines may have to cut down on the number of flights operating out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport. With the nation’s economy struggling, the spotlight was on the Chancellor as he announced a series of measures which he hopes will kick-start the economy. While the headlines were made by the VAT rate cut, Michael Cawley, the Chief Operating Officer of budget airline Ryanair has tried to draw attention to the rising taxes which are to be imposed on air passengers. APD is set to rise by 10% in 2009 from £10 to £11 for short-haul flights with a further increase to £12 expected in 2010. In a statement released in the aftermath of the pre-Budget statement, Cawley said that he expected this rate to affect regional airports such as Liverpool to a greater extent than the country’s larger airports. Cawley went on to argue that “passenger traffic has fallen since this tax was introduced and this increase will have a further damaging effect on passengers.” Airlines fear that rising prices will reduce consumer demand for flights which may in turn force a reduction in the number of flights provided from some airports. With air travel often cited as a significant contributor to the production of carbon emissions, taxes such as APD are applauded by environmental organisations. In their statement, however, Ryanair slam the so called ‘environmental tax’, arguing that the revenue which is generated is not being used to address environmental issues. In this time of economic hardship, Liverpool John Lennon Airport passengers may be one group which finds themselves disappointed by the UK Government’s new taxing plans.
